May 23, 2008Why does the good stuff all come at once
Mhm so apparently I am most definately shooting the ATL/Cobra shows on Monday and Tuesday night. Three nights of a tour is the most I've ever covered, so thats sort of insane and awsome and they are made of win and it means so much its not even funny. There was keeness to use the guestlist and all sorts of rubbish. I had to explain that as a fan I wasn't comfortable taking that when there are still tickets avaliable. I didn't want free access or a superiority complex. A shocked moment of silence ensued.
Having been dealing with Broadway Calls PR people for the past few days it seems its just as well I'm covering the other shows, on the grounds that they want images for a magazine for an article on Josh. If you don't know who Josh is I don't want to talk to you anymore =p Providing it all works out then I'm going to proudly get to say that within the first six months of the year I actually managed to meet my desired resolution/target. Getting something in the printed press would mean the WORLD to me. Is it wrong that my only fear is the mis-spelling of my name? Started working on cleaning images for musicpictures.com also. Oh my god I am actually starting to halucinate dust spots right before my eyes. It's interesting because I'm able to chose as many of as few images as I want. There is no quota, which means theres no stress. They seem like friendly and helpful people. I just wish I could work out why on earth my photos are getting tagged with 1990 for the decade and 2013 for the year. Its truly beyond me. ![]() You know whats funny? Out of around 4500 photographers on the site I'm the FIRST to add images of Halifax, Madina Lake, Broadway Calls, Mest...and gosh knows what else I've yet to come across that I will need to manually add into their database. It's just plain weird. I have to study tonight. My final exam of my (current) university career is at 9am tomorrow. From then on its slight freedom for the next twelve months. Rather wonderful sounding really. Going down to London overnight on Sunday evening. etting up with Lizzi on Moday to go to the Brighton and Cambridge shows, then heyyy its only a few short weeks after that till LOS ANGELES (and buzznet staff stalking o.O). Very very excited tbh. What are you excited about? Has there been any unexpected good news recently? A sudden change in mood?

April 28, 2008Why is this so hard to understand?
Sorry but I gots my angee on: (the 'you' is generalised; not a personal attack)
Why would you want my images (or anyone elses) on your page? They aren't yours. Sorry but it's utterly ridiculous. You don't deserve comments or attention for images that you have no ownership of. Liking an image is one thing, but taking it is actually illegal. You are aware of this - correct? Or are you ignorant of the information on the upload page - that clearly states you are to not upload content unless you are the copyright holder? Jebus I can't wait until the copyright rules in this place start to get reinforced, for real.

April 24, 2008sorry
jeez im such a grumpybear lately. it's f*ckin ridiculous.
I'd just like to know where I was headed for once. Back to the start sounds like as good a plan as any, no? I'm not tough enough for this business. I've got the worst attitude in the world. I don't have the mad brain skills or the drunken communication genius people in the music biz seem to inherit. No I'm just the awkward slightly chubby girl in the corner. Camera in hand. Watching a thousand potential oppertunities in life fly right on by. It's weird that so many people I 'know' just aspire to be in the music scene to get close to people in bands. That's their wish in life. To be the next...well I was going to use names but I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. I guess it must be like being a socialite. They want the vip stickers constantly stuck to their slender-designer-jean-clad thigh. To have photos with their 'friends' not a dude in a band. To be remembered, and to be able to wave that in a tormenting manner to the kids who basically pay for this scenes survival. It's only amusing to me because there's only a handful of band dudes I can actually bring myself to talk to. But anyway. No wait. I wasn't really going anywhere. I think I just concluded that while music is such a giant part of my life; I will never be a part of its business - on any level. I won't play the media role either. I don't think this was something that was meant to sound sad or pathetic - just in case it comes off that way.

this is when things might start to get interesting
I'm in a catch-22 situation. I'm never one for enjoying these things.
I finally heard from a pretty huge image supplier. They seem ridiculously keen (which is all kinds of awesome considering they've only seen four photographs). PAYMENT. Oh my gosh magazines and publications could buy my images for editorial use. And I would make some money! That would be...gorgeous, considering that 1) I'm poor (my own doing) and 2) I've never been payed by any company I've supplied my images to. I don't even get free access to the shows I shoot. And I spend more hours searching for the PR people to contact than I honestly should be. So yeah there's like a contract and everything to really get the ball rolling (I need to get my father to get it aok'ed legally though, because uhm I don't want to get screwed over anymore kthnx). But it looks extremely promising because I retain full copyright and can be contacted to get permission for useage on a case by case basis. I could even hgave all the images on my own site before hand, I can do as I please with them. Sounds like a dream...right? My downfall is that its still freelance. Which means its no help in actually acquiring the credentials to shoot shows. This is constantly the thing I have the problem with. The first site I shot for made me do it all myself, which...was a pain in the arse, but they were a respected and well known site. It helped for a while until they stopped responding to my emails. And then I never got to shoot for them again. I'm currently in the midst of experiencing a deja-vu. Right. Here. I didn't know it could take more than five weeks to acknowledge a very simple email. I mean honestly. My only problem is that I feel like crap trying to address it with someone who will essentially be caught in the middle. And then I will probably be left needing to leave here. Which is crappy. The whole situation is crappy. People in power love to excert it and abuse their control and influence. They're happy to use you to get what they want, but only when it suits them. Its not to help me. No of course not. That was a naive mistake where I jumped at an oppertunity and got too eager. Forgetting that it of course came at a cost. Resentment and awkwardness. Because I don't know where I stand anymore. Or if things are much too damaged to fix. Sorry I went on a tangent here. So have another one: I put in for an application for to shoot a Warped Tour date this summer. Instant denile. Holy crap I am far too good at instant rejections. I need to find a way to market this sort of thing.

April 13, 2008so basically...
i don't seem to be shooting shows 'for' here anymore ('for' being a very lose term for it obv because i have no actual 'affiliation' to this website or whatever). i assure you i had nothing to do with this apparent 'decision'. and while i'd love to be proved wrong in this...everything is pointing towards it being pretty much true.
so...if anyone knows of any sites needing someone to cover gigs here in the you-kayyy let me know? because uhm. to be quite honest this is getting tiresome. and its giving me frownies like you wouldn't believe i miss shooting concerts - like it means more to me than some of you might understand. and right now its crappy just to be posting pointless images but at the same time i feel like i need to keep playing with my camera and photoshop...remembering how to do everything. if i wasn't so shite i'd be looking at photo agencies. just another set back i guess. everyone enjoy their weekends?

April 9, 2008No this isn't me leaving
I just want to vent about some things I don't like around here. (part one of...gosh knows how many)
1) Praise for those who regularly and blatantly infringe on copyright. Why is it okay for some people to steal the work of other websites...of other photographers or artists or anything else? Why are they allowed to remain users on the site? Why are they given spots in the popular users of the week? Most buzzed/ commented etc? Why are they allowed to be labeled 'number one fan'? None of this is acceptable. In fact its entirely hypocritical to the terms and service of this entire website. The rules are clear: when you upload an image onto this site you have to be the copyright holder, or have been permitted the permission of the people who do. Make up your minds! Are you a site that supports photographers and artists? Or only when they complain to have their images removed from other users pages (which they have every right to do). Its unfair to have such double standards - and its the reason why people fight back when images are asked to be removed. There's a fair few people who 'get away with it' on a daily basis, so why can't everyone? 2) 'Credentials' - specifically the OG. I mean no disregard to Mark, or Pax, or Funks, or Seb or anyone else who is or has been heavily involved in the Buzznet Originals project. I don't say that it bugs me to bash you guys - I respect each of you a lot - but its getting a wee bit silly still. People are still just seeing it as 'omg a badge' I'd have mine taken off - really I would. But hell them I might get muddled up with the SQs - who I most certainly DO NOT want to be associated with. The fact that interest can be generated by a few people with multicolored hair who can generate hype by posting OMG A 'NEW' PICTURE EVERYDAY...are you for real? t's like the same one, only the boob tube is gold instead of silver and you're wearing waffles instead of pancakes (I might not be joking about this...). Learn how to be an artist, or have a purpose - please. You're giving awful ideas to a lot of kids who may have had a lot of serious and real raw talent and potential if you hadn't just gone and corrupted them all. 3) There not being a feature option on journals. THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN. Writers need more attention on this site. A LOT of attention. Some of the things I've read here in recent months have truly left me speechless. I would at least like to see some of these creative minds get a reward for their efforts. Theres a lot of poets, and storytellers and intelligent minds on this site - many who have real potential to go far in life - some people do come here to read and learn - not just view images of Peet Wence (sorry Ashly...I'd rather read your blogs than look at him) - so how about some more street cred for the more academic and literate people, hey? You know I'm gonna add to this...

March 21, 2008I think I'm in love with mister scimeca..By posting pictures of myself, I am also broadcasting the message, “It’s ok to be photographed even if you are not a model.” This may subtly influence people to post their own pictures; as a result, they will become more aware of their own image. As a result of that, they may learn to accept their unique physical traits as just that — unique traits — instead of flaws to be hidden. Covering up freckles with make-up or arching your neck forward to stretch a double chin does not actually change your body. It simply creates a new complication on top of the old one, by way of dishonesty. Adding complexity to a system is a technique for creating, not solving, problems. from his blog Discuss. Personally: I'm suffering from complete adoration of this entry - because its true. t's about learning about yourself in some ways I suppose - well self-portraits at least I guess. Their aim is to convey a certain emotion, or thought. Maybe that's just me - maybe a lot of people post images with the aim of showing off how pretty they feel or how awesome their photoshop skills are. And I guess others images are about showing everyone a new haircut, or a favoured item of clothing - who knows! It's not always about vanity. It's not about wanting a billion people to tell you you look hot or even that you look ugly. If it makes you think about ANYTHING else - then it's done its job - no?

February 28, 2008Everyone remember my post about the death of Polaroid?
Fear not! There may still be opportunities in the future to get hold of film…
Having snatched my mums ‘Amature Photographer’ magazine I can happily tell you the following “Polaroid is considering plans to licence the technology to third party companies – under an unspecified ‘joint venture’ – for dedicated fans of the medium. ‘We are looking at all our options’ said Kalmbach in and interview with AP, adding that nothing yet has been finalised. He would not say which films may continue, only that the firm would focus on those for which demand is strongest” OMG 600s PLEASE So there, we can still keep our fingers (and toesies) crossed.

February 21, 2008The 'Shiona Strange' guide to being Big on Buzznet (with extra help from the amazing bridgetlynn )
Sup. I'm bringing this back to the front of my journals :P
Please understand that this is all in jest. as if I would ever support any of this - and to any particular staff who may or may not stumble across this I mean no *real* offence. - Make up your own nickname and make sure the second word is ridiculous and starts with the same letter as your first name. - Rock the hell out of kids toys (bonus if you can actually find your old cabbage patch kids doll circa '92) - Become a 'model' (extra brownie points if you sign to your bestfriends-nextdoor-neighbours-cats Agency) OR - Become a photographer (brownie points if you don't know what type of camera you have or how to turn it on) - Date a rockstar and make a big deal about it (bonus points if you can break up with said rockstar and still convince people that you're famouzzz) - Become "bff" with someone already Buzznet famous (bonus points if they too are famous for no reason, and double bonus points if you can constantly have fictious drama with said bffl and jump between a few other Buzznet famous 'friends') - Take hundreds of photos of yourself with said Buzznet buddies and every person who is even remotely known in your area and post them up as personal/private images (extra points if the other members of the photo are drunken boys in small label scene bands) - Dye your hair 'outrageous' colours and get mad at anyone who steals your 'original' idea (triple points if your extensions are more convincing that a certain pink haired one..) - Become a buzzmaker for doing things bands themselves find creepy and awkward (ie: slash fan fiction about various members of FBR bands) - Take lots of photos and videos of yourself half naked in your bedroom (note: clothing optional) - Argue constantly that YOU ARE NOT SCENE. you are original. you defy all natural laws. (massive chocolate sundae points if you actually believe the words you say) - Throw all dictionaries and grammar tools out of your house - u iz sc3n3 now! Follow these easy steps and you are set - await the phonecalls from Buzznet - they can make you a star!

February 15, 2008unsceneunheard turns one today..
or tomorrow. sometime this weekend, whatever. I had time to type tonight.
My other buzznet account turned three just the other week, but I let myself skip by that one to focus on here. I just wanted to throw a few words of praise and thanks out in the air while I remember to.
Katykatykaty – Katy I miss you. Because you seem to have gotten a wee bit lost lately. So 1) I hope you’re okay. 2) Never stop being so kind and wonderful. You’re always so encouraging – to all the talents here, and little comments from you that may seem trivial to others can really brighten my day. Johnnynotsid – Wendy you’re bright and funny for all the right reasons – you remind me that sometimes I just need to keep my chin up and see things through. Basically you’re an absolute star. Breesays – Breeeeee is my hero. That’s pretty much all I have to say on the matter :D Gemmaxloves – ‘rawr’ need I really say more? You’re all kinds of supportive and wonderful. So thankyou, always. Hyperballad13 – Sarah I envy your way with words so much its ridiculous. You’re so talented and so humble. I’m crap at commenting so often because it leaves me speechless. But thankyou for always being so inspiring. Pipsy(kins) – Pips I keep telling you on eljay how much I miss you. I mean it still. You remind me that photography can still be art when I start to forget. You’re one of the most creative people I’ve ever seen with a camera, and I hope you never put it down, or stop, or dare to think you aren’t worth it, or liked or appreciated. You’re bloody brilliant and nothing can change that. Seb – Mister Seb..what can I really say other than Paxgitmo– We see eye to eye on a fair few issues here. Thankyou for reminding me I’m not always alone. Funksteena – Funks (I just can’t call you your real name ahaha), you were one of the first people to really make me feel like I could belong here or have some sort of potential. You’ve always been so kind and helpful whenever its needed, and while I’m sure you’ve been asked some completely dumb questions from time to time you never make anyone feel stupid about asking. Panasonicyouth – Mark you were always so kind and encouraging. Seriously one of the best website admins I’ve ever come across – to be so welcoming and helpful, but still be able to making other members feel like equals. You fully encourage all genres of talent, and it’s just been crazy to see how much the site has gown this part year from how I remember it in 2005, because of all the hard work that you (and the other staff too of course!) have put into it. Liddyloo – Lizzi you put up with my incessant moaning and whining. You offer me more support and help than I deserve and I’m forever rubbish at telling you how much I appreciate it. Others I wanted to say something about too… Lexidiem, Sandeedandee, Ericalovesit, Tryingtofindthewords, Kassady, Ounceofwentz, Bridgetlynn, Newageamazon, Ikkyg, Jenrray – you’re all wonderfully bright and talented individuals, and the kind words of encouragement you’ve left me can never be repaid like I’d wish them too. For that I apologise but please know that your words mean the world to me

February 11, 2008The Death of the Polaroid
THE digital age has claimed yet another scalp. Polaroid instant photographs entranced a generation in the 1970s as colour images magically emerged from an unpromising white square of plastic.
The technological breakthrough was endorsed over the years by luminaries as diverse as Sir Laurence Olivier, Ali McGraw and Kermit the Frog. But now, with the push of a factory button, Polaroid has consigned its iconic invention to the history books. The American-based firm has confirmed that it has stopped making its instant film and expects supplies to run out completely in 2009. The announcement has sparked a sales run on the cult cameras with enthusiasts rushing to snap up remaining supplies. source - http://news.scotsman.com/latestnews/The-death-of-the-Polaroid.3762571.jp WTF NOOOOO The expect stock to run out by mid-2009?! (I will just have to raid my works stock during the next few months and keep them all) I only just bought my polaroid before christmas. It's the most wicked little nifty toy ever. I adore still being able to hold a physical photograph and have it without the need of a computer - free of editing - and able to keep it off the internet. I can keep images completely private choosing exactly who I do and don't want to share them with.

January 14, 2008Lazy-girl Vanilla cupcakes with creamy (and coloured) frosting
Yeah so I was bored. I was feeling hungee and figured I’d document it too. Don’t consider it a real entry – well it wouldn’t be anyway only my obvious pukkelpop- covered wrist would identify that its me.
Makes approx 20 medium sized cupcakes. One of the easiest and yummiest recipes I’ve ever learned. Seriously I suck pretty bad at cooking so the fact that these not only look good – but taste good too? Well it’s pretty much a miracle.
For the sponge: 4oz slightly salted butter 4oz caster sugar 4oz self- raising flour 2 medium eggs 5ml vanilla extract
4oz unsalted butter 4oz (sifted) icing sugar 20ml cold water 5ml vanilla extract 5ml colouring (if desired)
To make the Vanilla Sponge:
Preheat over to 175 C (347 F) and set the cupcake cases into the bun trays Put sugar, sieved flour, butter and vanilla extract into a bowl and whisk until well combined and breadcrumby in appearance (or use a food processor if that’s what rocks your boat)
Add the eggs one by one using a low power setting on the whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy looking.
Spoon the mixture into the cases.
Pop the tray into the oven to bake for 17 minutes (smaller ones require less time, bigger ones more, ya know how it goes)
Once cooked remove from over and place of a wire rack to cool before frosting. To make the Buttercream Frosting:
Gradually beat in the icing sugar along with the water and then continue to beat until light in colour and nice and fluffy
Mix in the vanilla extract and any colouring you want. To decorate:
Orrrrrr decorate with other bits and pieces. Do whatever you want! I just dug out all the ice cream toppings we had in the house – vermicelli, sugar strands, silver decoration balls, crispy chocolate coated thingies. Whatever appeals to you.
